Taking your orchestra overseas is a chance to perform in some of the world’s most inspiring venues and connect with the musical heritage that shaped your repertoire. At KI Concerts, we understand the delicate logistics of touring with orchestras—from instrument care to venue acoustics. Here’s what you need to know.
What do I do about instruments?
Smaller instruments like violins and violas are fine to travel with—they fit in overhead compartments on planes. But you’ll want to rent cellos, basses, and large percussion instruments. We handle those rentals for you at an extra cost.
Because we know the value—both monetary and sentimental—of these instruments, we take extra care with transport logistics.
We will let the airlines know what instruments your group plans to travel with, along with case dimensions, so the group is prepared to address any unforeseen obstacles at the airport.
How do you accommodate instrument transportation during the trip?
On travel days (airport to hotel, intercity transfers, and back to the airport), we can procure a truck for your group in addition to your coaches to handle all the luggage and instruments that don’t fit under the bus. This is an additional expense.
Where are the best venues for orchestras?
KI specializes in choosing the right venues whose acoustics match orchestras for all shapes and sizes. We have found great success with:
- Acoustically-rich churches (especially for string orchestras)
- Grand concert halls
- School exchange venues
- Historic, musical venues that bring the traditions of music-making to life
After all, who doesn’t want to perform Mozart where he did?
Are there destinations that work best for orchestras?
We will work with you to have your orchestra perform in the destination of your choosing. From countries that speak to the music’s origin, to unexpected adventures with rich educational opportunities, we have hosted spectacular trips that travel throughout:
- Central Europe (Vienna, Budapest, Prague)
Can my chamber ensembles also have performance opportunities?
Absolutely. As a part of broader performances, quartets or quintets or smaller groups can perform with specific spotlights or moments, adding depth to your group’s overall presentation.
Are Masterclasses available?
Masterclasses can be incredibly enriching for orchestras. We can arrange meaningful educational experiences with esteemed local music educators.
Can we combine with our choir?
Definitely. The opportunity to perform a masterwork for choir and orchestra on an international stage will create indelible memories of this unique experience across your entire program.
