Planning an international tour for your band is exciting, but we know it comes with a unique set of logistical questions. At KI Concerts, we’ve been helping band directors navigate everything from venue selection to instrument rentals for years. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
Does KI work with wind ensembles and concert bands only, or can my marching band travel too?
We work with all types of bands: wind ensembles, concert bands, and marching bands. Each has very specific needs and will lead to very different on-tour experiences, which is exactly why it matters that we understand the distinctions. We will work with your band or ensemble, no matter its discipline, to bring your trip to life!
Do I have to travel with all of my instruments?
Yes and no. Smaller instruments that can often fit in a plane overhead compartment or as checked baggage (in durable cases) and are usually possible to bring on the airplane.
But for large instruments, we’d handle rentals for you at a separate expense.
How do you transport instruments on tour?
Depending on the number of travelers and instruments you need, we will be able to secure most instruments in the luggage compartments in the motor coaches. However, we may need to hire additional instrument trucks at additional cost for some days of the tour when the motor storage is at capacity.
Are there any considerations for bands when selecting a destination?
There are some countries where it is more challenging to rent some instruments you are used to using every day. We will guide you to the right destination that is the best fit for your band.
What kinds of venues can you secure for us that will work for bands?
We know the unique acoustics required to present bands and these have included:
- Grand concert halls
- School exchange venues
- Covered bandstands in bustling parks
- Historic town squares in Europe (particularly climactic and exciting!)
What unique performance opportunities do you offer?
Parades! Whether we’re helping your marching band secure a coveted spot in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade, or crafting a bespoke marching experience for your band in a place like the French Riviera, we will ensure your marching band has the opportunity to see and be seen. Parade opportunities vary due to factors like location and availability.
Other interesting performance experiences include invitational opportunities, and places off-the-beaten-path, like amusement parks.
Which countries are best for bands?
While we will work with you to plan a trip to the right destination for your band, countries with robust band cultures and history tend to boast the smoothest logistics and the most impactful trips. Some examples:
