Portugal Choral Festival

WITH DR. CRAIG HELLA JOHNSON

Tour Dates: June 12-22, 2028

Porto & Lisbon

Artistic Vision: Where the World Opens

In the summer of 2028, choirs will convene on the tip of the Atlantic horizon, where light and longing have shaped an extraordinary culture of poetry and song. Rooted in saudade: a deep longing for what we love, what we remember, what is distant, what we still hope for; as well as fado, Portugal’s beloved tradition of music and poetry, their artistry will discover Where the World Opens.

Led by Craig Hella Johnson, the 2028 Portugal Choral Festival will celebrate the power of singing to open us: to beauty and wonder, to memory and possibility, and above all, to one another.

Through music of many voices and traditions, he will lead participants beyond performance alone toward the deeper possibilities of singing together: listening, discovery, connection, and the renewed recognition of this beautiful world worth singing for.

Why Portugal?

Few places blend history, beauty, and musical expression quite like Portugal. The country’s coastal beauty, architectural treasures, and welcoming spirit offer endless inspiration. In Lisbon, centuries of history meet a vibrant contemporary culture. Colorful streets, sweeping vistas, and music-filled neighborhoods create an atmosphere of warmth and discovery.
